Description

Our NIH-funded laboratory is seeking an enthusiastic postdoctoral fellow in the pathogenesis of viral infection and the cytokine storm syndrome. Laboratory studies are focused on development of novel methods for in vivo gene discovery at the interface of infected respiratory epithelial cells and alveolar macrophages. Techniques include cloning and molecular biology, viral vector production, biochemistry, cell/tissue culture, fluorescence and confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, pooled CRISPR screening, transcriptomics and mouse models of infection.   • Designs and conducts biomedical research experiments, including standard laboratory and molecular biology techniques, work with pathogenic viruses, and animal models of viral infection. 
  • Independently evaluates own research findings and communicates these to the laboratory team, PI, and collaborators. 
  • Prepares and delivers oral research presentations.
  • Prepares and submits research manuscripts to appropriate biomedical journals. 
  • Provides guidance to graduate students and other junior trainees regarding their experiments and data interpretation. 
  • Maintains conformity with ethical standards in research, including rules governing human subjects research and animal care and use.
  • Maintains compliance with good laboratory practice, including the maintenance of adequate research records.
  • Adheres to all applicable University policies, procedures and regulations. 


Requirements

Minimum Requirements

The appointee has earned a Ph.D., M.D. (with significant bench research experience), or equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to implement laboratory procedures, design and conduct research, accurately and completely record findings, communicate results in oral and written forms, and generate manuscripts for publication. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook. Additional software and computer experience (e.g., Prism, imaging software, Photoshop, Linux, R, and/or bioinformatics tools) is desirable.
